Adding a new EU market: the EPR checklist

Opening a new destination country is a shipping decision with compliance attached. Check these before the first parcel.

Packaging

Registration and scheme membership in that country, with its number for your marketplaces. Ask early: some registrations take weeks, and marketplaces can deactivate listings without a valid number.

Other EPR streams

Electricals, batteries and, in France, textiles, furniture, toys and other product types have their own EPR registrations, separate from packaging.

The representative

If you sell directly to end users there and are not established there, you need an authorised representative in that country. A representative in another country does not cover it.

Labels

Safety information in that country's language under the GPSR, and that country's packaging marks where it has them, such as Triman in France or the environmental label in Italy.

Product safety

If your company is outside the EU, your products need an EU responsible person under the GPSR. One covers every EU country, so a new market does not need a new one.
